The Story Behind the Name

In Greek mythology, Melpomene is one of the nine Muses, the protectors of the arts and inspiration.

Known as the muse of tragedy and dramatic poetry, her name has long been associated with storytelling, expression, and the emotional depth of human experience.

The Muses were believed to inspire creativity and give voice to the stories of each era.

The Hill of the Muses

Not far from Melpomeni House rises the Hill of the Muses, today known as Filopappou Hill — a place deeply connected with the cultural memory of Athens.

For centuries, this hill has been a quiet meeting point between nature, history, and the city’s enduring creative spirit.

Inspired by this heritage, MELPOMENI HOUSE takes its name as a tribute to the idea that every place carries its own stories — of people, neighborhoods, and everyday life.

Here, guests become part of the unfolding story of Athens.

A new chapter

The story of MELPOMENI HOUSEapartment hotel began with a love for authentic Athens and its vibrant neighborhoods.

Inspired by the unique character of the city and the lively atmosphere of Petralona, we created a boutique space designed to offer guests a warm and memorable stay in one of Athens’ most charming areas.

Our goal was to create a place where guests feel at home while experiencing the true spirit of the city.

Shaping the Facade

Refined details, Timeless Athens

The aesthetic of MELPOMENI HOUSE was inspired by the principles of Athenian design: clarity, functionality, natural light, and timeless simplicity.

We chose materials often found in the city’s older homes — wood, stone, and ceramic — to create a sense of warmth and familiarity.

The façades were opened toward the neighborhood, allowing interior spaces to connect naturally with the surrounding streets and the everyday life of the city.

Throughout the apartments, objects from personal collections and historical pieces have been carefully placed, adding layers of memory and small stories that connect the space with the city and its past.

Each room blends elements of Greek tradition with modern aesthetics, offering comfort, style, and personality.

Our philosophy of hospitality is built on warmth, sincerity, and simplicity — ensuring that every stay is authentic, relaxed, and enjoyable.
